Nullscape Tips and Tricks — 15 Pro Tips for Survival

These tips come from experienced Nullscape players who have survived hundreds of runs across all difficulty modes. Whether you're a beginner or a veteran, these strategies will improve your gameplay.

1. Always Buy Adrenaline First

There's a reason every guide recommends Adrenaline as your first purchase. The speed boost when enemies detect you is the single most impactful upgrade in the game. It turns detection — normally a dangerous moment — into an escape opportunity. No exceptions, no alternatives. Adrenaline is purchase number one.

2. Learn Enemy Detection Ranges

Every enemy in Nullscape has a specific detection radius. If you learn these ranges, you can navigate around enemies without ever triggering aggro. Watch the moment enemies notice you and mentally note the distance. Over time, you'll develop an intuitive sense for safe vs. dangerous distances.

3. Use Altar of Purification on Your Worst Curse

The Altar of Purification removes one active curse. Save it for your most debilitating curse — typically Nearsightedness, Ambush, or any Greater Curse. Don't waste it on minor curses like Pixelate or Camouflage that you can play through easily.

4. Never Stand Still

This sounds simple, but it's the most broken rule new players make. In Nullscape, standing still is a death sentence. Enemies are always moving toward you, and static targets take damage. Develop the habit of constant motion — even when shopping at the Mart, be aware of your surroundings.

5. Chain Your Jumps

Double Jump isn't just an extra jump — it's a chain tool. Practice the rhythm: jump → Double Jump at peak → land → jump → Double Jump. With proper timing, you can maintain near-continuous aerial movement that ground-based enemies can't touch.

6. Check for Mimics Before Interacting

Before interacting with any object — Mart stations, items, altars — pause for two seconds and look for subtle tells. Mimics have slight animation differences. A real Mart station doesn't fidget. This two-second check saves you from devastating ambush damage.

7. Radar is Underrated

Players often skip Radar in favor of flashy mobility upgrades. Don't. Radar provides constant enemy position data, which lets you plan routes, avoid ambushes, and identify Skinwalkers. In runs with Nearsightedness, Radar goes from useful to essential. It's your fourth or fifth purchase, always.

8. Business License Pays for Itself Fast

If you plan to buy more than 5–6 upgrades across your Nullscape career, Business License saves you Sheckles in the long run. Buy it early — the discount stacks with every purchase you make for the rest of your account's lifetime.

9. Go Vertical to Escape Ground Threats

Most enemies in Nullscape are ground-based. Husks, Guardians, Scrapmaws, Ponderers — they all operate at ground level. Ninja Belt wall jumps and Double Jump let you escape vertically where these enemies can't follow. When overwhelmed, go up.

10. Don't Fight Every Enemy

The roguelike mindset is about efficiency, not completion. If you can bypass an enemy without fighting it, that's always the correct choice. Fighting costs time, risks damage, and uses resources. Only engage enemies that block your path or threaten your escape route.

11. Memorize Mart Locations

Mart stations appear at semi-fixed locations throughout levels. Over multiple runs, you'll start recognizing patterns in where they spawn. Knowing where the next Mart is lets you plan your Sheckle spending and route efficiently. Rush toward Mart stations to secure upgrades early.

12. Use Altar of Passage for Speed Runs

The Altar of Passage teleports you to another location. In speed-focused runs, use it to skip entire enemy-dense sections. It's essentially a free bypass for the most dangerous parts of a level. Save it for the longest, most enemy-heavy section you encounter.

13. Panic Necklace Saves Runs

Panic Necklace grants an emergency speed burst when your HP is critically low. In practice, this means you get one "get out of jail free" card per run. It's activated the moment you're about to die, giving you just enough speed to escape a lethal situation. Pair it with Adrenaline for a double speed burst.

14. Learn the Death Screen Code System

Every time you die, you have an opportunity to enter a code on the death screen. These codes unlock Sheckles, cosmetics, and other rewards. Keep our codes page bookmarked and enter active codes after every death. It's free loot for five seconds of typing.

15. Cut Your Losses on Bad Curse Combos

Not every run is winnable. If you start a run with a devastating curse combination (Nearsightedness + Ambush + Bigger Blast, for example), accept that this run is probably doomed. Don't waste 30 minutes fighting an impossible setup. Die quickly, enter your death screen codes, and start fresh. Time spent on unwinnable runs is time not spent on winnable ones.

Bonus: Advanced Tips for Veterans

A. Grapple Point Sequencing

With Grapple Points and Larger Grapple Points, you can chain grapples across entire level sections. Plan your grapple route before engaging — identify 3–4 anchor points and execute the chain in one fluid motion. Mis-timing even one grapple breaks the chain.

B. Altar of Purgatory Economy Strategy

Altar of Purgatory trades HP for Sheckles. If you have Helmet and high HP, this altar is essentially free money. Use it when you're at full health to generate extra Sheckles without meaningful risk.

C. Spirit Class Detection Exploit

Spirit's passive stealth significantly reduces enemy detection ranges. This means Spirit can move through areas that would aggro enemies for other classes. Combined with Ninja Belt, Spirit can navigate "impossible" sections by staying just outside reduced detection ranges while wall-jumping above ground patrols.

D. Matrix Tetrahedron Math

Matrix Tetrahedron's damage calculation alteration stacks multiplicatively with Helmet and Shield. If you have all three, you can reduce effective damage to near-zero against most regular enemies. This triple-stack is the foundation of extreme-endurance builds.

E. Ice Skates Route Optimization

Ice sections in Patch 5 are abundant. Ice Skates don't just make ice safe — they make it the fastest surface in the game. Intentionally route through ice sections when you have Ice Skates equipped. You'll move faster than on regular ground, effectively turning a hazard into a speed boost.
