Orb

Orb is a utility upgrade that creates a persistent light source around your character, illuminating dark areas that would otherwise be nearly impossible to navigate safely. In Nullscape, several biomes feature reduced visibility or complete darkness, making Orb an essential tool for seeing hazards, enemies, and collectibles.

How It Works

Upon purchasing Orb, a glowing light sphere surrounds your character, casting light in a radius around you. The illumination reveals the terrain, enemy positions, trap locations, and collectible items that would be hidden in darkness. The light moves with you, so you always have visibility in your immediate vicinity as you explore dark rooms.

The Orb's light radius is large enough to give you adequate warning of hazards ahead but small enough that you cannot see an entire room at once. This creates a natural tension in dark biomes where you must balance exploration speed against the risk of walking into unseen threats. The Orb does not attract enemies or increase detection range — it is purely a visual aid.

Cost and Availability

Orb is affordably priced in the low-to-moderate Sheckles range. It appears regularly in the Mart and is most useful to purchase before entering dark biomes. The low cost makes it easy to fit into almost any budget, and the convenience it provides in relevant areas is substantial.

Tier Ranking: B

Orb earns a B-tier ranking because its value is highly biome-dependent. In the Shadow Depths and any dark sections of other biomes, Orb is arguably an A-tier upgrade that prevents deaths from unseen hazards and enemies. In well-lit biomes, it provides no benefit whatsoever. The B-tier reflects this variability. Players who struggle with dark sections will find Orb more valuable than the tier suggests, while players who have memorized dark room layouts may not need it at all.

Best Synergies

  • Radar: Radar shows enemy positions on the minimap even in darkness, and Orb lets you see those enemies in the game world. Together they eliminate the visibility disadvantage entirely.
  • Grace Wings: Gliding through dark areas with Orb active gives you time to survey the ground below before landing, preventing blind drops onto hazards.
  • Defuse Kit: See traps in dark areas with Orb, then safely disarm them with the Defuse Kit. Without Orb, you might walk over traps you never saw.
  • Shield: If Orb's light reveals an enemy too late for you to dodge, Shield absorbs the hit and gives you a chance to reposition.

Tips

In partially dark rooms, use Orb to map out enemy positions before committing to a route. The light reveals patrol patterns and hazard placements that are invisible in darkness. If you are confident in your memory of dark room layouts, you can skip Orb and spend the Sheckles elsewhere, but for most players it is a worthy quality-of-life investment.
